Tennessee’s football team has made the top 25 of several preseason polls thus far. Now their head football coach has made a top 25 list as well.

Butch Jones was named as one of the top 25 most intriguing coaches of 2017 by Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports recently. Out of the 25 coaches on the lists, Jones came in at No. 21. Here’s what Forde had to say about the Vols’ head coach:

“Self-bestowed ‘Champions of Life’ title not buying near as much job security as champions of the SEC East would. Jones missed a golden opportunity last year with an experienced team, losing four games and ending the regular season with an embarrassing defeat at Vanderbilt. Now his future is in doubt with a new athletic director, John Currie, calling the shots.”

Forde, just like almost every other national media member, seems to believe Jones is on the hot seat entering this season. Jones does go into the 2017 season with a lot of questions to answer, regardless of how you feel about him. The Vols were favorites to win the SEC East last season but failed to do so because of injuries and poor play down the stretch.

The list on Yahoo Sports isn’t all just coaches on the hot seat. Some are on there because they are following up historically great seasons at their school while others are first-time head coaches who are finally getting their shot.

But in Jones’ case, Forde has him on the list because he views the 2017 season as make-or-break type of year for Jones and the Vols. And with the SEC East still very much wide open in 2017, Jones and the Vols will attract plenty of attention this season.

  1. Why do people keep saying Butch Jones is on a hotseat with Currie? When curry has came out multiple and talked about how butch has done a great job so far? I think he should be far from getting fired for now unless we go 4-8
