Typically, recruits will commit to a school in the early afternoon so they can get all sorts of coverage for their announcement. But Tennessee found out early Wednesday morning that they have a new pledge to their 2018 class.
Matthew Flint, a linebacker out of Alabama, committed to the Vols at around 8 AM Central time on Wednesday morning. He tweeted out his commitment along with a picture of his scholarship offer.

Flint is rated as a three-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and he holds offers from Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Louisville, and others.
Flint is listed as an outside linebacker, but he is a little undersized for his position right now at just 6-foot, 213 pounds. He ran a 4.57 second 40-yard dash recently at an event in Atlanta, however, so he has the athleticism coaches want in someone with a smaller frame at the position.
His highlight film shows off his athleticism very well, and it also shows how strong of a tackler Flint is.
With his commitment, the Vols now have 19 total pledges in their 2018 class. Flint is actually the Vols’ lone linebacker commit in the class so far, and he’s the only player committed from the state of Alabama in the class as well.
