Running Back
John Kelly: 1
Total: 1
Tennessee’s running backs are only slightly more experienced than their quarterbacks. And it’s not by much.
John Kelly is the only Vol running back returning with any sort of meaningful collegiate football experience. Kelly started just one game last season, but he played in 11 of the Vols’ games as a whole. In those 11 contests, Kelly carried the ball 98 times and ran for 630 yards and five touchdowns. In his Tennessee career, Kelly has 795 rushing yards on just 138 carries and has scored six times.
Sophomore Carlin Fils-Aime appeared in three games last year and gained 58 yards on 14 carries, scoring twice as well. His only appearances came in games against Virginia Tech, Tennessee Tech, and Missouri.
The rest of the Vols’ scholarship running back roster is comprised of incoming freshmen, so they don’t bring any returning experience at the collegiate level. Tennessee will be relying on a relatively known commodity in Kelly and whomever steps up to support him.
