Last season, the Vols had one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the SEC in Josh Dobbs. This season, however, the Vols have exactly zero returning starts at the position.

Tennessee doesn’t lack talent at the quarterback position; the Vols have two former four-star prospects vying for the starting job this fall. But none of the Vols’ three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster have ever started a single game in college.

Quinten Dormady is the only quarterback with any sort of collegiate game experience, but all his playing time has come in garbage time as a Vol. Dormady has appeared in seven games and has completed 24 of his 39 pass attempts for 357 yards and one touchdown.

The Vols will be breaking in a first-time starter at quarterback no matter who starts this season. And that’s a stark contrast from last year.
