It’s just mid-June, but the hype around former Vol running back Alvin Kamara is already starting to roll in from down in New Orleans.

Kamara was drafted by the New Orleans Saints with the 67th overall pick in the third round of this year’s NFL Draft, and he’s apparently already impressing his new teammates in the gold and black. Several of his new Saints teammates spoke to the media after practice last week and had nothing but good things to say about him. The media themselves seem impressed by the work Kamara is already putting in as well.

Here are just a few examples of what players like Drew Brees, Mark Ingram, and the media had to say about Kamara last week:

It’s unclear how much playing time Kamara will have as a rookie for the Saints. With Adrian Peterson and Mark Ingram firmly above him in the depth chart, Kamara will have work to do in order to even see the field.

But Peterson is coming back from an injury-depleted 2016 campaign, and Ingram has shown in the past that he flourishes when he has someone to take the pressure off him in the backfield. As one of the tweets above says, Kamara will likely be used primarily as a third down back this year. But don’t be surprised to seem him line up at receiver or be used in creative ways in the Saint’s explosive and pass-happy offense.

  1. Good for him. He was vastly underutilized along with Josh Malone for their TN careers. Hope they both get the reps to show they can make a difference.
