Tennessee’s backfield of the future is shaping up as a big recruiting weekend unfolds.

The Vols landed highly-regarded running back Jashaun Corbin in the 2018 class on the eve of the Orange and White Game, and then added a signal caller shortly after the spring game as three-star QB Michael Penix of Tampa, Fla., committed to UT.

Penix, who was in attendance during Saturday’s Orange and White Game, originally received an offer from Tennessee in the summer of 2016 and then chose the Vols over offers from Oregon, Arizona, South Florida and others.

The 6-foot-2, 180 pound quarterback is the sixth commitment for Tennessee in the 2018 class and the second one to join the Vols from Florida.

The Vols currently have four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster: Junior Quinten Dormady, redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano, freshman Will McBride and redshirt sophomore Sheriron Jones. They’re likely to face some amount of attrition after the upcoming quarterback battle is settled for the 2017 season.
