With Cam Sutton out for part of 2016 and hobbled for the rest, the cornerback position got exposed at times. New defensive backs coach Charlton Warren must help this unit take the next step. Rashaan Gaulden was decent at nickel, but the outside corners are a big question mark. Veteran Emmanuel Moseley, who has been shaky at times, is likely the best option heading into the spring. Sophomore Baylen Buchanan learned some tough lessons in 2016 as a freshman, but he should be better suited for playing time in 2017. The unreliable Justin Martin, the unheard from D.J. Henderson and Marquill Osborne, who could be a nickel or an outside corner, are the other names in the picture this spring before three freshmen show up this summer to bolster the depth and competition. Tyler Byrd is a wild card at this spot. He could get work at receiver, cornerback or maybe even both this spring.
