Safety
The Vols have two safeties graduating at the end of the 2017 season, and they have three more safeties graduating at the end of the 2018 season as well. Todd Kelly Jr. and Evan Berry will be gone after this season, and Rashaan Gaulden, Micah Abernathy, and Stephen Griffin will be gone after the 2018 season.
Yes, the Vols addressed that position in the 2017 season with the signings of four-star Maleik Gray and three-star Theo Jackson. But Gray’s ceiling may be highest at linebacker rather than safety, and two bodies (if Gray stays at safety) won’t make up for the five players lost after the 2018 season.
Tennessee needs to add two or three safeties in the 2018 class. Four-star Brendon Harris is an in-state target that the Vols are already high on, and they’ve offered nearly two dozen safeties already in the 2018 class. Expect the Vols to hit his position hard in this cycle.
