Tight ends
With Jason Croom gone and Ethan Wolf heading into his senior season, Tennessee had to address the tight end position. The Vols did so by adding LaTrell Bumphus and James Brown – two players with nice upside. Bumphus was a two-way player in high school who shows incredible athleticism for his near 250-pound frame. He could play defensive end or tight end, but it looks like he’ll get his first shot on offense. Brown is a converted quarterback who the Vols hope can be a diamond-in-the-rough type of prospect after picking him up late in 2016. The Vols need at least one of them to develop to the point that he’s ready to compete for a starting job in 2018.
