Grades: The 2017 Signing Class

Wide receivers

This class could be remembered more for who didn’t come as opposed to who did. Seeing Knoxville-area stars Tee Higgins and Amari Rodgers choose Clemson certainly strung for UT fans, but the Vols are hopeful that the quartet they are bringing in will help them forget the misses. Jordan Murphy, a polished four-star prospect out of Hattiesburg, Miss., might be the best of the bunch. He had 1,695 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior in 2016. Jacquez Jones is a smaller, but speedier, player out of Clearwater, Fla., who could play in the slot and help in the return game. Josh Palmer and likely blueshirt Princeton Fant are the wild cards. Palmer has huge upside after moving from Canada to play at St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.), but doesn’t have the experience of some of the other receivers in this class. Fant is tough to project due to multiple major injuries in high school.
