It was a confusing morning when it came to the final hours of defensive end Aaron Sterling’s recruitment.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive end out of Tucker, Ga., was one of a handful of names the Vols still had on their board as a possibility to be added to their class after he visited Knoxville the weekend of Jan. 21. In what now appears to be a mistake, Tennessee showed a graphic of Sterling during its live Signing Day show on UTSports.com, causing speculation that he had decided on the Vols.

A few hours later, however, Sterling announced his signing with the Gamecocks during a ceremony at this school. Tennessee, meanwhile, has 17 signees, in addition to its five early enrollees, officially in the class as of 10:45 am ET.
If there is going to be a signing day surprise, Sterling will not be it for the Vols.
