Tennessee needs plenty of helpt at receiver in this class, and the Vols got a boost from an East Tennessee walk-on Wednesday evening.

Cooper Melton, a highly productive 6-foot-3, 195-pound receiver from Walker Valley High School in Cleveland, Tenn., committed to the Vols, giving them a strong preferred walk-on in the 2017 class.

Melton caught 61 passes for 1,123 yards and nine touchdowns in 2016, according to MaxPreps.com. He’ll join the three incoming scholarship receivers in the class: Jordan Murphy, Princeton Fant and Jacquez Jones, in addition to any other receivers the Vols add in the final weeks of recruiting.

Tennessee needs to replace leading receiver Josh Malone, who is leaving early for the NFL draft. Jauan Jennings is the only returning receiver who had more than 20 receptions in 2016.
