OLB: 1. Cortez McDowell 2. Quart’e Sapp/Elliott Berry
ILB: 1. Darrin Kirkland Jr. 2. Colton Jumper/Gavin Bryant
Thoughts: Kirkland, who seemed to return to form in the Music City Bowl, should have the inside spot locked down in 2017 as long as he stays healthy. Outside that, there are a lot of bodies, but not a ton of answers. McDowell should get the first crack to replace Jalen Reeves-Maybin at outside linebacker. But Quart’e Sapp, who missed most of 2016 with an injury, and senior Elliott Berry are other options the Vols have. Jumper can play both spots, Dillon Bates is perpetually in the conversation, but never really a huge factor and sophomore Daniel Bituli, who could play a few different spots as well, are all returning names to know as the Vols figure out their primary two two guys and then look for a third option for the 4-3 look.
