Overall
Butch Jones’ luck with five-star recruits has seen as many misses as hits so far. A large number of the nine former five-star prospects Jones and his staff have brought in still need more time in order to fairly judge, but only Josh Malone and Alvin Kamara can truly be considered “hits” right now. Jalen Hurd and Preston Williams can easily be argued as “misses.”
Time will tell how the other seven former five-stars pan out at Tennessee. And the lone five-star in the 2017 class, Trey Smith, will also be a part of this group moving forward. But right now, Jones’ luck with five-stars isn’t exactly top notch, and that needs to change if he and his staff want to continue bringing in this type of elite talent.
