Running Back
Commitments: Ty Chandler (4-star), Trey Coleman (3-star, athlete)
Tennessee has a commitment from one of the best running backs in the nation in the 2017 class thanks to Ty Chandler. Rated as a top 100 overall player and one of the best players in the state of Tennessee and at his position, Chandler is one of the highest-rated prospects in the Vols’ current class. Chandler filled up the stat sheet and lit up the highlight reel during his time at Montgomery Bell Academy.
As a senior, Chandler racked up 2,252 yards on 259 carries, scoring an eye-popping 39 rushing touchdowns. In three years, Chandler ran for 6,158 yards and 92 rushing touchdowns on 814 attempts. That’s a 7.6 yard per carry average in his three years at MBA.
Chandler is easily the headliner in this class, but the Vols do have another projected running back behind him.
Trey Coleman out of West Monroe, Louisiana is listed as an athlete but is expected to play running back in college. Coleman is a good complement to Chandler in the fact that he is more of a power back with some decent speed as well. Coleman is listed as a three-star athlete with offers from Arkansas and Mississippi State among others.
The Vols are likely looking to add another back to the 2017 class, so this unit may not be complete as of yet.
