7. QB Bubba Thompson
Thompson is one of the more intriguing prospects in this class and could be a boom-or-bust addition for the Vols. He recently backed off a commitment to play baseball at Auburn to pursue both football and baseball. Tennessee and Ole Miss have both stepped up as possible destinations for him to play both. The Vols really need some depth at quarterback in this class, but taking a highly-touted high school baseball prospect comes with some inherent risks. He could turn into the next Jameis Winston/Russell Wilson type or he could never end up on campus. He certainly has plenty of upside, but it’s tough to say what the future holds for the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder who is ranked as the 54th best QB prospect in the nation.
Quarterback Will McBride, who is currently committed to Memphis, also recently got an offer from the Vols and could very much be in the mix.
