Running Backs
Alvin Kamara cashed in on a short field in the second quarter to cut Alabama’s lead to 14-7, but that was about all for the running backs. Even with Jalen Hurd back in the mix this week, the Vols ended up with just 32 yards on 32 carries on the afternoon. The sack yardage makes that number look slightly worse than it was, but it was still unacceptable even without that factored in. UT tried to go up the middle, tried to get to the outside and even mixed in some options and jet sweeps. Nothing worked. Again, this started with the offensive line, but the backs didn’t do enough to help when they did find space.
