1. 2016 Florida
Let’s not beat around the bushes here; Tennessee’s 38-28 victory over Florida this season is the biggest win of Butch Jones’ career at Tennessee thus far. And it’s not even close right now.
When you end an 11-game losing streak to your biggest rival and do so with another improbable comeback, you get all the credit possible. And that’s what happened with Butch Jones and the Vols in this game.
Much like the Georgia game last year, the Vols wore their Smokey Grey uniforms and trailed by three scores in the second quarter. This time, however, there was also a Checker Neyland crowd and College GameDay was in town before the game.
The Vols were down 21-0 in the second quarter and were getting dominated on all fronts by the Gators. It looked like the Vols were well on their way to dropping their 12th straight against their bitter rivals.
Then 38 unanswered points happened.
The second half Vols looked like a completely different team that was on the field in the first half, and Tennessee roared past the Gators in the second half, outscoring them 35-7 in the third and fourth quarter combined.
Butch Jones will forever be remembered as the head coach that helped end the losing streak to the Gators. And that’s why this win is his most important.
