9. Avoid pointless penalties
Tennessee needs to play cleaner football overall. That includes getting rid of some of the penalties. A few flags will always fly in a hard-fought game, but it’s been excessive for UT. The Vols are second-to-last in the league in penalty yardage assessed against them, and that’s been uncharacteristic of this program under Butch Jones. The Vols have finished fourth, first and first, respectively, over the past three years. Florida has also been sloppy in this area early in the season, so whichever team cleans it up will have an edge.
