Overall
The bottom line is that UT leaves this game 3-0. Tennessee hasn’t been in that scenario since 2004. So there are some reasons to be excited, but just like the opener against Appalachian State, UT seemed to play down to its competition and was far too sloppy in several aspects of the game.
Fumbling five times and committing nine penalties will get you beat in a majority of SEC games. It certainly won’t lead to many wins in the upcoming four-game stretch against Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M and Alabama.
The Vols have a lot to clean up, and will need several younger guys to step up with the injuries mounting. All of their goals are still in front of them, but this certainly wasn’t the performance the Vols were looking for heading into Florida week.
