Surprisingly, Ohio State and Tennessee have only met once in the two schools’ rich histories. And that ended in a 20-14 Tennessee victory in the 1996 Citrus Bowl.

But despite the lack of history between the two schools, a game pitting these two against each other would garner plenty of attention.

A big reason Vol fans would be on board with seeing Tennessee take on Ohio State is because of its head coach, Urban Meyer. Much like the aforementioned James Franklin, Meyer is a Vol villain. He was undefeated against Tennessee in his time as Florida’s head coach, and he was often on the end of blowout victories in that series. Vol fans grew to detest Meyer, and that hatred hasn’t lessened despite Meyer moving hundreds of miles north.

The Vols have never beaten Urban Meyer, and Ohio State is generally one of the most hated college football teams in the country. Vol fans would need no help getting up for this game.
