5. Jeff George (RS Jr.), Wide Receiver
The Vols have had some great success with junior college transfers over the past few seasons, and this past recruiting cycle was no different. Tennessee has been in need of a tall, red-zone threat, and the Vols might have found it in Jeff George. While at Dodge City (Kan.) Community College, George was ranked the No. 6 JUCO receiver and the 33rd overall JUCO prospect.
George (6’6”, 190 lbs) could end up being a favorite target for offensive coordinator Mike DeBord. George enrolled at Tennessee in January and participated in spring practice. Even though he did not have a flashy spring camp, he was one of the bright spots in the 2016 Orange and White game. He reeled in four catches, with one being a nice corner jump ball grab for a touchdown.
That’s what Vol fans are hoping for. George has the height and skills to be a threat in the end zone every time. He does needs to be more consistent and gain a little more size if he’s going to be able to play in the SEC week after week. However, he will join the rotation and play some meaningful snaps. Be sure to look for #19 going up for jump balls and making a solid impact among the newcomers.
