4. You Make Me Wanna Shoop
But it’s not just the o-line you’ve got to love about team 120. It’s the other side of the ball as well. Well the defense, and the new guy running it.
And suffice it to say there’s a ton to love about the advent to Bob Shoop. Like this fun fact: he’s had a top 25 defense every season the last five years. Arguably with way less talent than he’ll enjoy this year.
Here’s how his units have ranked in total defense dating back to 2011:
2015 (Penn State): 14th
2014 (Penn State): 2nd
2013: (Vandy) 23rd
2012: (Vandy) 19th
2011 (Vandy): 18th
One way he’s gotten such results is his aggressive nature. He’s not afraid to run fast and hard at the quarterback. And with guys like Shy Tuttle, Kahlil McKenzie, Kendal Vickers, Danny O’Brien, Jonathan Kongbo, Corey Vereen and Derek Barnett, he’s got plenty of horses to run with.
And don’t even get me started on JRM, Kirkland Jr, Cam Sutton and TK Jr. It’s not just the first level Tennessee opponents have to fear. There are playmakers all over the field. It will be exciting to see Shoop put them to use.
