Quick bio: Davis, a native of Elizabethton, Tenn., played safety for the Vols from 1982-86, and was a key member of the 1985 “Sugar Vols” team. After trying out with the Cowboys in 1987, he went on to a career in broadcasting, working for multiple outlets including NBC, The Golf Channel, The Big 10 Network, Fox Sports, the NFL Network and others. He also had stints as an assistant AD at Stanford, the director of the USOC Training Center and ran the Disney Golf Classic from 1998-2000.

Pros: Davis is one of the more respected figures in the sports world and is fairly universally loved by UT fans as well. He has connections everywhere and a strong UT background to go along with his vast experiences in sports.

Cons: He doesn’t have extensive administrative experience and would have to adjust to hiring, firing and managing a multi-million dollar department. There might be too much on-the-job training for UT to feel great about it. Davis also has a pretty fantastic gig right now as one of the top broadcasters in football. He might not want to give that up.
