5. Peyton Manning
Quick bio: Another man who needs no introduction to UT fans. The former Tennessee quarterback and No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft went on to have a legendary and record-breaking career with the Colts and Broncos that concluded last year with a Super Bowl victory. Manning has been non-committal about his future plans, only saying he wants to watch more football in 2016.
Pros: Hiring Manning would be a massive boon in terms of program prestige, donations, recruiting and almost anything else you can think of. He’s a UT legend, has a tireless work ethic and attention to detail and would be beloved by virtually everybody associated with UT.
Cons: Face it, he’s probably not coming. It’s an intriguing name to throw out there with the timing of everything, but with the bevy of opportunities that he’ll have in sports, coaching, business or otherwise, UT fans shouldn’t get too excited about this possibility. It’s worth asking though, right?
