Ethan Wolf/Jason Witten
Here’s a classic example of a player getting a head start statistically on the historical player they’re compared to. Ethan Wolf has been the starter at tight end since his first game in college, giving him an edge through two seasons on campus:
Witten: 29 receptions, 304 yards, 2 TDs
Wolf: 46 receptions, 513 yards, 2 TDs
Witten, who switched from defensive end to tight end during his UT career, then broke out his junior season with 39 catches, 493 yards and five touchdowns. He’s gone on to have a Hall-of-Fame caliber NFL career. Obviously Wolf has a lot of work to do to be compared to Witten in an all-time sense, but he, at least for now, is well ahead of Witten’s career statistical pace.
