As fall camp gets underway in Knoxville, preseason hype and expectations are about to hit a crescendo for a season UT fans have been anticipating for years.
Let’s kick it up a notch by comparing some players on UT’s roster to some of the greatest Vols to ever play.
I know some of these comparisons will sound like heresy to some of the traditionalists and die-hards out there. And it’s important to note that I’m not saying all these players will necessarily go on to be as successful or as remembered as the players I’m comparing them to.
Stats are only part of the story.
The eras are different in some situations, the number of games played vary and it’s important to remember that it’s more common now for players to play early – especially in UT’s case the past couple years as the Vols have rebuilt under Butch Jones.
And perhaps most importantly, it must be noted that many of these players used as comparisons were huge winners – some national champs. For the current players to live up to these legacies, it’ll take a lot of wins, and perhaps some titles, in the next year or two.
