Vols Add Defensive End to 2016 Class

Mykelle McDaniel

It was a long and bumpy ride for Mykelle McDaniel, but his recruiting process has a happy ending, especially for Tennessee fans.

The three-star 2016 defensive end had struggled to find a collegiate home because of concerns over his grades, but after he recently became a full-qualifier, all 31 schools who offered him could potentially add him to their 2016 class. All that was left was for him to choose his school.

And McDaniel chose the Vols.

Mykelle McDaniel is rated as a three-star in every major recruiting service except for ESPN where he’s a four-star, but his rating was likely hurt because of his academic standing. Because one look at his offer sheet and highlight film shows McDaniel isn’t your ordinary three-star.

McDaniel chose the Vols over offers from every single SEC school except Arkansas and Vanderbilt and over schools like Clemson, Florida State, Michigan, Miami, North Carolina, Oklahoma and others.

Listed at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds, McDaniel has the type of frame any SEC coach wants in a defensive end. And his film shows great speed and athleticism off the end.

McDaniel gives the Vols 23 total members in the 2016 class. Since Tennessee has no scholarships available in the 2016 class, his scholarship will count towards the 2017 allotment.

Here’s some of McDaniel’s highlights from his time in high school:
