Trevor Daniel named to Ray Guy Award Watch List

The award watch lists keep rolling in, and more Vols keep appearing on those lists. This time, Tennessee’s punter, Trevor Daniel, is on a list.

The Ray Guy Award is given annually to the best punter in the nation. No Vol has ever won the award, but Dustin Colquitt was a semifinalist in 2004 and a two-time finalist the two years before that. David Leaverton was a semifinalist in 2000 as well.

Now Trevor Daniel will get a shot to win the award.

In his first season of action for the Vols last year, the redshirt sophomore burst onto the scene with an average of 45.7 yards per punt. Of Daniel’s 60 punts, 25 ended up inside the 20 yard-line and 22 went for over 50 yards. Daniel’s 45.7 yard average was the second-best season average in UT history behind only Jimmy Colquitt’s 46.9 average in 1982.

Not to mention he pulled off this miraculous punt that helped Tennessee defeat Georgia:

If Daniel can improve on his already impressive 2015 numbers, he’ll have a legitimate shot of being the first Vol to ever win the award.
