Vols Add Commitment From Massive DE Saturday

Tennessee landed a commitment from a big target and a massive person on Saturday afternoon during the Vols’ Orange Carpet Day on campus.

Tre Lawson, a 6-foot-7, 250-pound defensive end from North Augusta, S.C., committed to the Vols according to 247Sports, giving Tennessee its 11th commitment in the 2017 class and its first true defensive end prospect in this class (Marquez Bembry is an ‘athlete’ that could end up at DE as well and LaTrell Bumphus committed later in the day).

Lawson is ranked as a high three-star prospect on every major recruiting service except for ESPN, which ranks him as a four-star. He chose the Vols over offers from USC, Ole Miss, Florida State, South Carolina and others.

Tennessee took just one defensive end in the 2016 class – Jonathan Kongbo III – so Lawson will boost the depth at that position after the Vols will lose Corey Vereen, LaTroy Lewis and quite possibly Derek Barnett following the 2016 season.
