The 2017 class in the state of Tennessee has been celebrated for several years. The Vols are hoping to capitalize by landing as much of that talent as possible in this cycle.

They took a nice step in that direction on Saturday, landing Nashville, Tenn., safety Theo Jackson, the No. 12 overall player in the state, according to the 247Sports Composite. The Vols have also added No. 4 (Maleik Gray) No. 14 (LaTrell Bumphus) and Princeton Fant (No. 17) in the past week as well.

Jackson, of Overton High School, is a rangy 6-2, 180-pound safety who chose the Vols over offers from LSU, Louisville, Vanderbilt and others. He’ll pair with Gray to give the Vols a possibly formidable Midstate duo at safety, adding to the talent there that has been added in the past couple years such as Nigel Warrior, Rashaan Gaulden and others.

Jackson was one of at least seven commitments on the day Saturday in conjunction with Orange Carpet Day. The six commitments in the 2017 class helped elevate UT into the top-10 in the recruiting rankings, according to the 247Sports Composite.
