How He Fits
Although Darrin Kirkland Jr. has the starting middle linebacker position locked down right now, he is good enough he might only be around through his junior season. And if that were to happen, depth at the position will be vital. While Burnam doesn’t please the stargazers, he does pass the eye test and the size test.
He has a keen ability to be where ever the ball is, which is exactly what you want in your middle linebacker. As you can tell in his highlight film, he has decent coverage skills. If he can improve his block shedding to get in the backfield more often, he will make a good addition to the Vols defense.
