Maleik Gray

grayAthlete – 2017 Class
6-2, 205 pounds
LaVergne, Tenn. (LaVergne)

Other top offers
Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia

Status
Gray named Florida State, Tennessee and Alabama, in that order, his top three in early May. So while the Vols are running in second place as of that point, they do have a lot going for them in this battle. Gray’s teammate, receiver Princeton Fant, is very interested in UT and that duo could be a package deal. Gray also has a good relationship with defensive coordinator Bob Shoop, who could be the key to getting the versatile player to UT.

 How he fits

Gray has the frame and physicality of a linebacker, but the athleticism of a defensive back. He could excel in college at either spot. With several key personnel losses coming after the 2016 season for the Vols, they would love for the consensus top-100 player to come be part of the group that reloads that side of the ball.
