RTI Recruiting Profiles: Wide Receivers

K.D Nixon

NixonWide Receiver – 2017 Class
5-8, 180 pounds
DeSoto, Tex. (DeSoto)

Other top offers
Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Duke, Houston

Status
Nixon may be small, but he packs a lot of play-making ability in that minuscule frame. He committed to the Vols back on April 16th of 2016 shortly after naming them his leader not even a week before. The Vols will likely look to use Nixon much like they did Pig Howard considering the two have very similar body builds and skill sets.

 How He Fits

Butch Jones and the coaching staff like to have an abundance of receivers on their roster. And with guys like Jauan Jennings, Preston Williams, and Jeff George on the roster who stand 6-foot-3 or taller, having a smaller receiver to play a different role is pivotal. That’s where Nixon comes in. He’ll likely be used as a true slot receiver in Jones’ offense, much like what Pig Howard was normally used as in his time at Tennessee.

Nixon could also see some time on special teams depending on how that situation shakes out in 2018 and beyond. He has the type of elusiveness coveted by special teams coaches in returners.
