5. Josh Dobbs
Yes, Josh Dobbs is Tennessee’s starting quarterback. Should he be higher up on this list? Possibly. But I think that speaks more to Butch Jones’s recruiting prowess rather than Dobbs’ ability.
Regardless, Josh Dobbs has been a large part of Tennessee’s team in his three years on the roster. He started four games as a freshman, five as a sophomore, and started in all 13 games last year. In his 24 games he’s played in his career with the Vols, Dobbs has 26 passing touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns. He set the record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a season in UT history with 671 yards last year, and he scored a combined 26 times last season.
When Dobbs flipped from Arizona State to Tennessee late in the 2013 recruiting cycle, he joined Riley Ferguson as the second quarterback in the 2013 class for the Vols. Ferguson has since transferred, and Dobbs has looked like the four-star dual-threat quarterback he was supposed to be out of high school.
Dobbs will be a senior this upcoming season, and he has a chance to make it a special senior year. He’s one the most well-known Vol on this team, and his skills both on the field and in the classroom have made him a national story. Dobbs could certainly move up this list with a strong finale to his college career.
