6. Alvin Kamara
Alvin Kamara’s journey to the Vols was a winding one, but once the junior college running back made it on campus for the 2015 season, he was expected to serve as a viable second option behind starting running back Jalen Hurd. But the former five-star recruit proved that he had the skills to be a starter on almost any other team in college football last fall.
Kamara was the perfect complement to Hurd’s bruising, powerback style last season. In his first season with the Vols, Kamara ran for 698 yards and seven touchdowns on just 107 carries. He also caught 34 passes for 291 yards and three scores. And that’s not to mention his punt return touchdown he had against Western Carolina.
Kamara proved to be one of the best all-around players the Vols have had in recent history last season, and he has lived up to his high billing so far. And 2016 could be an even bigger year for the team captain.
