The 10 Best Recruits of the Butch Jones Era

1. Cam Sutton

Sutton-1

Of all the recruits Butch Jones has landed, the most important one of them all might just be one that originally committed to Derek Dooley, but stayed on with Jones in the 2013 class.

Sutton was a mere three-star in the 2013 class when he signed on to play for Tennessee. But he proved right away that the recruiting analysts had missed out on his evaluation.

As a freshman, Sutton totaled 39 tackles, recorded a sack, had four tackles for a loss, and intercepted two passes. Then as a sophomore, Sutton began to establish himself as a true lockdown SEC corner, picking off three passes and recording 13 pass breakups.

Last season, Sutton’s stats dipped, but that wasn’t so much due to a drop in play by him as it was quarterbacks not throwing his way. Sutton is arguably the best cornerback in the SEC this season, and he returned to the Vols for his senior season despite being a likely draft pick in the first three rounds of the NFL draft.

Oh yeah, and have I mentioned his ability to return punts?

Sutton has three career punts returned for a score, one as a sophomore and two last season as a junior. He has the athleticism and awareness to be good at nearly everything he does.

Cam Sutton wasn’t the most lauded recruit out of high school, but he’s arguably been the best get of Butch Jones’ time at Tennessee.
