 Running back

Jalen Hurd (9 carries, 18 yards) and Alvin Kamara (4 carries, 7 yards) were extremely limited by design. The Vols were usually in “thud” when they were in the game, meaning they could be stopped by a defender wrapping them up instead of taking them to the ground. That will limit any RB’s numbers. That left most of the heavy lifting to John Kelly (15 carries, 65 yards, TD) and walk-on Jayson Sparks (11 carries, 34 yards). Kelly, again, showed that he’s more than a serviceable third option for the Vols and is getting a head start on preparing to possibly be the lead back in 2017.
