Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback Sheriron Jones will miss the rest of spring practice with a leg injury, Butch Jones confirmed after practice on Tuesday afternoon.

Butch Jones hopes to have Sheriron Jones back at some point in June.

Sheriron Jones is competing with Quinten Dormady to be the backup quarterback in 2016, while also jockeying for position in the 2017 starting quarterback battle. After taking a redshirt season in 2015, Sheriron Jones briefly transferred to Colorado before reversing courses and returning to Tennessee this winter.

Offensive coordinator Mike DeBord spoke highly of Sheriron Jones as recently as last week.

“Sheriron – I really like his mentality right now, he’s working extra, really coming in trying to get extra stuff, spending a lot of time watching film by himself and things like to get better,” DeBord said last Thursday. “Sheriron is continuing to learn and I like where he’s at right now and he’ll get better.”

Some of that will now have to wait until the summer and fall.
