Recruiting Outlook: Looking Ahead at The Top Targets for 2017

Offensive Line

offensive line-1

Offensive line is a position where you like to see at least 2-3 recruits taken every year, if not more. Tennessee has recruited well across the offensive line in the past few years with guys like Jashon Robertson, Coleman Thomas, Jack Jones, and Chance Hall cracking the starting lineup as true freshmen. And they finally have depth to really solidify the position group. Look for the Vols to take another 2-3 linemen (at minimum) in 2016 with these guys at the top of their radar.

4* Trey Smith: Jackson, TN | 6’5″ 300 lbs

Wherever you find elite offensive linemen, you will find Alabama. And that’s exactly who Tennessee will have to beat to get Smith – along with Ole Miss, Auburn and Clemson. The in-state talent really is on the upswing for 2017 adding Smith to the offensive line would make a huge impact. Smith is also an early enrollee, which is highly coveted by college coaches across the country. If Butch Jones can just do whatever he did to convince Drew Richmond to come to UT, he might be able to persuade Smith to do the same.

3* Isaiah Stokes: Memphis, TN | 6’8″ 285

As the younger brother of former Tennessee basketball standout Jarnell Stokes, it’s hard to imagine Isaiah anywhere else but Knoxville. However he is taking his recruitment very serious and is even considering his options for basketball at the collegiate level. No matter which sport he chooses, Tennessee will likely be on his list of favorites. But if he does choose football, it’s honestly hard to see him signing with any team other than UT. Don’t expect that decision to come any time soon though.
