The Lady Vols (19-13) extended their streak of making 35 straight NCAA tournament on Monday evening when they were selected to the Field of 64.
As a No. 7 seed, they will take on No. 10 Green Bay (28-4) on Friday evening at 5 pm ET (ESPN2) in the Wells Fargo Center in Tempe, Ariz. The victor will then face the winner of the home-standing No. 2 seed Arizona State and No. 15 New Mexico State.
“Obviously we are excited to get into the tournament, and I’m familiar with Green Bay,” coach Holly Warlick said via UTSports.com. “They are a tough opponent for us in the first round. We’ve had three quality, very productive practices. I think it started right after our Alabama game. I think we’ve built on that and built on going to the SEC Tournament. I like our focus; I like how hard we are practicing. I am really pleased with where we are and how focused we are.”
Tennessee, which earned its lowest NCAA tournament seed in program history, is one of three SEC teams in the Sioux Falls Region, joining No. 1 South Carolina and No. 5 Florida.
Green Bay won the Horizon league title by knocking off Milwaukee 64-32 on Sunday. The Phoenix holds a 1-0 record against the SEC this season, knocking off Vanderbilt 58-56 on Nov. 21. This is the second ever meeting between the Lady Vols and Green Bay with Tennessee coming out victorious 71-36 in Knoxville in 1996.
