Friday Top 10: Vols Who Need a Big Spring

6. Todd Kelly Jr., Safety

Todd Kelly Jr-1-2

Both safety positions are wide open for the Vols right now, and although Todd Kelly Jr. has been penciled in by most fans and media as one of the two eventual starters, you have to believe coaches don’t see it that way. With the departure of multi-year starters Brian Randolph and LaDarrell McNeil, both safety positions are vacant right now. Kelly Jr. has shown plenty of flashes to make him the early front-runner for one of the two open spots, but absolutely nothing is guaranteed for him with a new defensive coordinator now at the helm.

Bob Shoop has never seen Kelly or any of the other defensive backs play on the field, so Kelly will have to prove to him that he is worthy of the starting job.
