Lady Vols’ AP Poll Streak Over

Tennessee-1For the first time since 1985, the Tennessee Lady Vols’ basketball team isn’t in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll.

Monday’s new poll broke a streak of 565 consecutive weeks of the Lady Vols being ranked. The Lady Vols (16-11, 7-7) fell at LSU (9-18, 3-11 SEC) on Sunday afternoon in the closing seconds, losing a realistic shot to remain in the poll at that point.

The Lady Vols, which are in their fourth season under the guidance of Holly Warlick have tied their season-high loss total (11) already with two games in the regular season still to go in addition to any postseason opportunities. Warlick averaged 28.7 wins in her first three years as the head coach with two Sweet 16 appearances and one trip to the Elite 8.

As of Monday afternoon, ESPN still projects the Lady Vols to make the NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed.

The Lady Vols return to the floor Thursday night at Alabama (8:30 pm ET; SEC Network+).
