“When will it end?” – @NealFischer
“Did…Do you think… Will…..Just tell me it’s gonna be okay. Tell me this nightmare will end. Hug me.” – David Maxedon
Daniel: Wow, what a week it’s been. I, personally, have put very little stock in the Shaun King/Peyton Manning story from the moment I read it. It was old/one-sided journalism, in my opinion.
But the recent lawsuit, now combined with a couple more arrests of a recent and current Vol, bring a lot of questions – ones that I don’t necessarily have the answers to. I am interested to see, if this lawsuit goes to civil trial, if a jury finds that there are people in positions of leadership at Tennessee that are culpable for promoting an environment that helped lead to some of this happening. At the end of the day, I do believe in personal responsibilities when you’re talking about 18+ year olds. The coaches/administrators can’t be with every player at every moment. But the quantity of alleged events in the past few years does make you wonder if there’s something bigger that needs to be addressed.
Bob: This just in…and it involves Josh Dobbs. It’s a joke! But sadly, admit it…I made you stop and grimace for a second, didn’t I?!? They say that bad things (deaths, accidents, etc.,) come in threes. It felt like Tennessee just about doubled that total in this week alone, so I’m optimistic that the run on bad things is over for now.
Stephen: Deep breaths, David. Inhale….exhale… See, doesn’t that feel better? Now, like Daniel, I put very little stock in the King article on Manning. Honestly, I put zero stock on it. He has an agenda of defaming. Period. That being said, Tennessee players (current and former) need to stay out of trouble and stop shooting themselves in the foot or nothing will be going away any time soon. As for the lawsuit, I’m honestly not sure… I want to say it will be okay, but I look at situations like the one Louisville basketball recently faced and it makes me feel like anything is possible.
Nathanael: I would say “At least it can’t get worse” but as all Vol fans know, that’s not true. So at least take solace in the fact that it could be worse right now. There’s still plenty to look forward to once the season actually starts in early September.
John: This is as bad as I can remember. I’m confident things will be better. And I’m hopeful this string of bad press serve as a deterrent from future abhorrent behavior.
“Can we expect Shy Tuttle to be 100% healthy and back on the field by the fall?” – @jon_wims
Daniel: Yes, that’s the plan. He’ll be non-contact in the spring, but they think he should be good to go for work over the summer and full go in the fall, if there aren’t any setbacks. And trust me, they like him a lot
Stephen: What Daniel said…only sexier.
Nathanael: Yes, and I think as long as there aren’t any hiccups with his progression, he’ll be a surefire starter and make some great contributions this year.
“If Stanley Asumnu can get a cup of coffee in the NBDL, why can’t Armani Moore?” – Cory Varner
Daniel: I would also add that if Swiperboy can play in the NBDL, why can’t Moore? It seems that if you are a decent college basketball player, which Moore is, you can get some kind of professional opportunity – be it overseas or the NBDL. I see no reason Moore can’t bounce around opportunities like those.
Nathanael: Exactly! He’ll get some time in the NBDL or overseas. He plays with too much tenacity not to. He plays well beyond his size and is the kind of leader you want on your team, no matter what level you play at.
Bob: I agree with the other guys thoughts, but would also say that Armani should work any connections he can find to get into some NFL tryouts. The guy is a physical freak and may just have enough size (would likely have to add another 15-20 lbs) to be the next Antonio Gates or Julius Thomas, two guys who came out of the college basketball game and have excelled as NFL Tight Ends.
“How many days do you wait to call a girl after you get the digits?” – Patrick Schmidt
Nathanael: I’ve always said you’re free to call within 24 hours myself. I mean if they give you their number, they obviously are okaying you talking to them on a more regular basis. Plus, dating rules like this are dumb. Most dating rules are dumb.
Stephen: My wife says if a woman gives you her phone number, that is her giving you permission to call/text her within 24 hours. However if you are a fan of How I Met Your Mother you could go with Barney’s advice:
John: With all due respect, calling within 24 hours is a complete wuss move. I point to supply and demand. As in limited supply increases demand. Calling right way infers that the supply is plentiful. Now, you don’t want to be a dick and take the product off the shelf for an entire week (aka wait a week to call), because then the consumer will move on to a different brand. But don’t act like she can get it up front any time she wants from the sample lady, either. So create just enough demand while reassuring that the supply could, indeed, be there. The correct answer here is 72 hours.
“Garth Brooks or George Strait? You must choose one.” – @sethcampbell6
Daniel: Yes. (Garth if I had to choose because he’s so great live)
Stephen: Garth looks like he puts on a great live show…but honestly at this point I’d probably prefer Chris Stapleton.
Nathanael: I hate country nowadays, but I actually know stuff by these two. And I’m making it a clean sweep and going Garth.
Bob: No clean sweep here Nathanael! I’m a guy who likes things neat and clean, and George Strait rocks those cleanly pressed (and sometime creased) jeans like no other artist. Now don’t get me wrong, I would never get caught dead with that look, but GS’s moxy on that point alone would make me want to check his show out over Garth and his “fresh off of a hot day on an ATV” look!
John: I’m appalled that this is even a question. Garth Brooks’ biggest contribution to pop culture was those horrendous no-collared shirts. And don’t even get me started on the Chris Gaines debacle.
George Strait is the correct answer.
