With the attention centered on Tennessee’s ability to finish off the 2016 class over the weekend with five of the top 90 prospects in the nation in town, it’s easy to overlook the start that Tennessee is also getting in the 2017 class.
One of the best players in the nation in the 2017 class, defensive back/athlete Deangelo Gibbs (6-2, 200 pounds), is visiting Knoxville over the weekend – making a return trip as the Vols look to position themselves as early favorites for the player ranked eighth nationally in the 247Sports Composite ranking for 2017.

Gibbs is the cousin of 2016 four-star safety Nigel Warrior, who is visiting Tennessee over the weekend and is thought to be leaning towards the Vols. Gibbs, who is from Loganville, Ga., has offers from virtually every top program in the nation including Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Georgia and many others. Both Scout.com and 247Sports rank him as an early five-star prospect, while Rivals.com and ESPN have him as high four stars.
