According to 247Sports’ rankings, the Vols are right about on par with their last two recruiting classes in terms of the average amount of talent per prospect. Tennessee’s average ranking per player in 2014 was .895, it was .894 in 2015 and it sits right below that at .887 in the 2016 class. Add in two or three of the highly-ranked players that the Vols are very much still alive for, and that average will likely be right about where it’s been the last two years. So while team recruiting rankings factor in quantity to come up with their final ranks, the Vols, which need a smaller class this year after two bigger ones in the prior years, will be bringing in a similar level of quality this year in all likelihood.
