10. Renovations to Neyland Stadium
Okay, so this first one isn’t about the actual football team exactly, but it’s something fans have been wanting for a while, and it looks like they’ll finally be getting it.
On Thursday morning, Tennessee announced a partnership with Populous, a design company with an office in Knoxville, to “conduct a comprehensive renovation plan and feasibility study for venerable Neyland Stadium.” This company has previously worked with Texas A&M, Baylor, and Oklahoma, all of which have very impressive stadiums.
Some of the ideas offered as to what the renovations will cover include upgrading the south and east sides of the stadium, expanding the restrooms in the stadium, improving concession areas, and adding high-density wi-fi to the stadium. That last one especially has been something fans have asked for in the last few years.
There has been no word about improving field conditions as of yet, but there’s a good chance that gets looked at. And these renovations won’t all be seen and felt in 2016, but some of them likely will, and that’s a reason to look forward to getting back in Neyland in September.
