Report Card for the Vols’ 2015 Season

Evan Berry-1-4

Special Teams

What a year by Tennessee’s special teams. 2015 was easily the best overall year by a special teams unit in a very, very long time for the Vols. Evan Berry had three kickoff return touchdowns, Cam Sutton had two punt returns for a score, Alvin Kamara added a punt return touchdowns, and Trevor Daniel averaged 45.7 yards per punt, putting him up there with the Colquits as far as season-long production.

The only knock on the Vols’ special teams was kicker Aaron Medley. Up to the Alabama game, Medley struggled with consistency and accuracy, most notably missing three field goals against the Crimson Tide. But to his credit, he recovered well down the stretch and only missed 2 of his 14 field goals after that game. Tennessee’s special teams was a weapon for the first time in years in 2015, and teams were actually kicking away from the Vols’ kick and punt return units.
