Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
Tennessee’s wide receivers and tight ends came into 2015 with high hopes and expectations because of a bevy of talent at both positions. But this unit was easily the most disappointing group for the Vols this year, and the receivers as a whole consistently earned the lowest grades all season long. Von Pearson and Josh Malone were the only receivers to finish with more than 400 receiving yards, and a running back, Alvin Kamara, finished second on the team in receptions and tied with Pearson for the most receiving touchdowns with three.
Injuries and the dismissal of Pig Howard played a part in the lackluster play of the receiving corps this year, but that still doesn’t excuse an overall disappointing effort by the whole unit. Tight end Ethan Wolf was rarely utilized and has still yet to live up to his potential, and young play-makers like Preston Williams and Jauan Jennings weren’t given enough opportunities to shine.
