The Vols don’t have a ton of time to wrap up their 2016 recruiting class with National Signing Day just a few weeks away.
But a relatively quick, and impressive, hire at defensive coordinator should help Tennessee finish strong with several huge prospects on the defensive side of the ball still yet to decide. That new coordinator, Bob Shoop, wasted little time – making several of his first new follows on Twitter top defensive prospects.
Shoop followed defensive end Jonathan Kongbo III, committed cornerback Baylen Buchanan, defensive tackle Derrick Brown and safety Nigel Warrior, in addition to James Guarantano, the father of quarterback commitment Jarrett Guarantano, within the first 24 hours of taking the UT job on Saturday evening.
That certainly doesn’t guarantee anything, but it does show that Butch Jones has already made Shoop aware of some of the top names the Vols are trying to close out on, and Shoop is making those first steps to begin working on those relationships.
Shoop changed his Twitter handle to @UTCoachBobShoop on Sunday and has already received approximately 8,000 new followers in the first 24 hours since the Vols made the hire. He sent out his first Tweet as a UT coach on Sunday as well.
